Lecture - "An Introduction to Language for Specific Purposes"
Friday, November 12, 4:00 pm in IUPUI's Campus Center Room 409
This presentation will introduce language for specific purposes (LSP),
an approach to language teaching tailored to the specific needs of
learners. Three hallmarks of LSP (and more specifically ESP, or English
for specific purposes) will be focused on: needs analysis,
needs-responsive materials and methods, and needs-knowledgeable
instructors. How recent developments in research, theory, and
technology, e.g., ethnography, genre theory, computer-assisted language
analysis, are helping us better assess and meet language learners’
specific needs will also be discussed.
