Vice-president
The Vice-president:
- assists the President in the execution of business and presides in the absence of the President
- is President-elect for the next year
- is responsible for all communications between INTESOL and International TESOL and other organizations and affiliates and promptly distributes communications to the President and other appropriate members of the INTESOL Executive Board
- serves as chair of the Conference Committee
- The term of this office is one year.
2010 Vice-President: Leslie Barratt
- Current position: Professor of Linguistics at Indiana State University
- Originally from: Hillsdale, New Jersey
- Area of interest: aspects of language (variation, change, pragmatics, etc.) that make language learning difficult and qualities of good teachers (including NNEST issues)
- Places taught:
a) as a graduate student: University of Wisconsin-Madison, Northwest Missouri State University, The University of Iowa
b) as a faculty member: Indiana State University
c) as a Fulbright Scholar: Budapesti Muszaki Egyetem (Technical University of Budapest) and Beijing Wai Guo Yu Da Xue (Beijing Foreign Studies University)
- Current professional pursuits: I am working on helping teachers at Eotvos Lorand University in Hungary (ELTE) design online pedagogical grammars; I am working as Associate Chair for TESOL 2010 and TESOL 2011; I have been trying to find the time to study when the loss of -er/-est in English began.
- Languages: I am a lifelong language learner and can speak (to different degrees) Flemish, German, Hungarian, Portuguese, Mandarin, and Russian. I am working on Thai and Hindi now. I have also studied a lot of ancient languages (Latin, Greek, Old Church Slavic, Hittite, and Sanskrit), but I don't have to try to speak them.
- Hobbies/outside interests: Cooking and baking (especially anything chocolate), helping high school students to cross cultures (through AFS Exchange Program and Indiana's Partnership with RS-Brazil).
